| XBRL stands for eXtensible Business Reporting Language. It is one of a family of “XML” languages which is becoming a standard means of communicating information between businesses and on the internet. |
| The idea of XBRL is simple. Instead of treating financial information as a block of text in a standard file or document, XBRL provides an identifying tag for each individual financial field (E.g. Revenue). This is computer readable. The introduction of XBRL allows companies to streamline their processes for collecting and reporting financial information. |
| In 1 May 2007, the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) released the final version of FS Manager-a free web-based tool available 24/7 that allows Singapore companies to prepare their financial statements in XBRL format. And since 1 November 2007, Singapore companies have started filing their latest audited financials with ACRA in XBRL format. |
